The Sunset House, a Historic Landmark in Gouldsboro since 1898, was built by Frank Noyes, who from the beginning provided lodging to travelers. Besides welcoming visitors, Frank and his wife Mary raised six children in this home. A busy guy, Mr. Noyes was also proprietor of the General Store and Post Office, which was located across the road in the building that now shelters the Maine Kiln Works. At one time, the Mill Stream on the side of the Sunset House supported three mills; a grist mill, a shingle mill and a wool carding mill. During that period, the Noyeses created a closely-knit community; each day workers at the mills enjoyed Mary's home-cooked meals. Today, this charming Victorian has four guestrooms with provate baths on the second floor and three guestrooms on the top floor with shared bath and kitchen. Perfect for families and traveling groups. Water views can be enjoyed from three sides of the property. |
