Carl and Kathy Johnson acquired the Sunset House in 1989, moving here from Cape Cod. Carl brought to Maine a highly enviable entrepreneurial spirit. He's never been afraid to try new things. Once settled in, he wasted little time establishing a popular restaurant, The Fisherman's Inn, and, later, Grindstone Neck of Maine, a permier processor of smoked seafood.Once in Maine, it was inevitable that Carl would gravitate to food-related enterprise, having brought with him extensive experience in the culinary arts. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, he had been an executive chef for 30 years. He did formal training at the five-star rated Hotel Regency in New York City. For most of his career he worked in restaurants in the Northeastern United States for European chefs. For a decade, he was executive chef at the Bar Harbor Motor Inn, and has been named "Maine Chef of the Year" by the American Culinary Federation. A full country breakfast is served at the Sunset House. |
